Bruff in California

Of the 839 days Bruff spent on his California gold rush adventure, 601 were in the state of California as we today know its boundaries.

For Bruff though, as for most of those traveling overland in 1849, he entered “California” when he crossed over the summit of the Sierra Nevada. Actually, we should say when he thought he crossed over the summit of the Sierra Nevada, because Bruff's “summit” was the summit of the Warner mountain range; the Sierra Nevada was far to the south.

Bruff did a lot when he was in California.
